When trying to decide what name
to put with our artist we came across many others which we thought may be a
possibility for our music artist. Right from the start we knew we wanted an
original forename with a unique surname as we thought this would be an effective
way of reflecting our artists identity by resembling her styling. This way it
would be an easy way of attracting and engaging our target audience due to the
unconscious connotations they have to our chosen name. As well as this we
wanted a name that was enabled to look aesthetically pleasing when with a
certain font. This made us starting to think of 'J' and 'L' which helped give
us a direction of what we wanted the names to begin with. To start the thinking
process we started looking at different websites to gather inspiration from
looking at common baby names. It was there that we came across 'Jessie'
which we initially liked because of the way it sounds and the way it
looks. This was important to think about due to the names visual occurrence which
we plan to place at the start of the music video. The surname took longer to
create due to the uniqueness of it.
During this stage we
came up with three different names and chose which one was best from the
list. These were:
- Jessie Lovett - We first picked this name as we liked the nickname 'Jessie' and how it seemed more edgy because of it. As of this we thought it represented our artist perfectly as it resembled her monotone face and behaviour which we thought would intrigue our target audience enough to listen to her music. The surname we thought was unusual enough yet is easy for audience members to read. This means that our music artist is suitable for people of all ages and both genders.
- Jessica Locket - We initially thought this name was a good choice as the surname creates a mysterious imagery due to the connotations attached to the word 'locket'. This would help attract new audience members because of the unusual surname. However, there are a few things that we didn't like about this name one being the lack of a nickname. We think this particular name resembles a different identity then to the one we want to create.
- Liv Fran - We liked how simple and minimalistic this name looked and how short both the forename and surname were. However, we decided not to pick this name due to it seeming quite childlike and so not representing our artist effectively and efficiently. We wanted to create our music artist as being feisty and strong this name resembled the opposite effect.
