Black Honey- Madonna:
This song is
very different to all of the other songs that I have chosen for my potential
songs because it has more of a bass beat running throughout it - making it
slightly rockier. I like how strong the chorus is because it adds that much
needed impact and powerful effect to the song, which is built up throughout the
song. I believe that this kind of powerful chorus would look very pleasing as a
music video because it is very quick and has strong beat, which would mean that
I could pair this chorus with a strong visual. There are not many lyrics
present in this song which would lead me to make a narrative music video to it,
with maybe bits of performance e.g. lip syncing to make the video fit within
the song. In addition, this song is performed by a band which would give the
opportunity to have multiple people starring in the video, however having the
lead singer as the star image. The lyrics are very meaningful and would make
the audience feel emotional when watching. Also, because there are many long
instrumental parts in the song, it makes the lyrical parts more emotional and
intense for the audience. However the only negative element to the song is that
fact that the song doesn’t have a large variety of paces, which is what looks
the most effective in music videos. Similarly due to the large amount of
instruments used to create the song, you would imagine a performance video presenting
a band - which is not really what I would like to do.
Phoebe Green-Maniac
This song is very atmospheric which is what attracted
me to it because it gradually builds tension throughout, which would work well
as a music video. In addition the song gradually increases in pace and tone
which would work well with an intense visual or a soft one at different points
of the song. I like how the under tones of the song are overall very sad and
lyrics are sad to match this. In addition, there is no original music video for
this song - just like all of the other songs which are present in Phoebe
Green’s album 2:00 am. I really like how Phoebe Green sings the lyrics because
it sounds like she whispers, which is very unusual and unique, which would mean
that I could create a more diverse music video. In addition the song is very
powerful due to the well written lyrics, which would give lots of inspiration
and ideas for visuals. However the song doesn’t have an equal amount of lyrical
and instrumental parts which could limit ideas slightly. In addition the whole
song is very dark in tone and so are the lyrics to match, which would mean that
the video would have to be really dark, meaning I would have to use a dark
colour palette, but I would prefer to go quite bright.
Phoebe Green- Watercolour Envy:
I like how this song is a mixture of paces and tones,
making it very diverse and I would be able to use a variety of visuals in
contrast to the song. The strong clapping beat at the start of the music video
is very effective and adds a cyclical sense to the song because it is present
throughout the whole song with the addition of lyrics, but at the end of the
song the beat comes back without lyrics. This makes the song more inspiring.
Also the lyrics are very inspiring because they are very powerful, meaning they
inspire me and ensure it will appear even more effective as a music video. In
addition the chorus is very memorable because you do not expect it to be so
impactful in the song, which would appear effective in a music video. I like how the lyrics are overlapped making
the audience listen to the different parts of the song more closely, which
would keep the audience attention throughout the whole music video. Also it
would allow you to create more of a psychedelic appearance to match the
psychedelic sounding lyrics, which would look very effective in a video. The
emotional lyrics would allow the audience to either relate or feel the pain
through the lyrics, which would enable them to have a strong connection to the
song.
Phoebe Green- High:
I like the soft sounding vocals and tone that is
present in this video because it is very soothing and relaxing. Also the chorus
of the song is very effective because it expresses what the artist is feeling
and would keep the audience engaged. I like the slow build up to the chorus
because it is understated and I could pair some effective visuals to the lyrics,
making the music video appear effective.
Overall the song is very upbeat in its tone and its pace, which means
that it would make the audience feel happy emotions from listening to it. However
I believe that this song is too short to make into a music video because it is
only 2:98 which it should be around 3:20 to make it into an effective video
idea. In addition the song doesn’t have a clear build in tension, which I
believe wouldn’t be very effective for a music video because the chorus appears
twice. As well as this I like how the lyrics sound like they are from her diary
that she has written each day because it gives a personal feel to the song,
which would be very effective in making the audience engaged and attracted to
the video.
Alvvays- Ones Who Love You:
This song is
very upbeat and has a strong summer vibe to it, which would look very effective
if made into a music video. In addition it is a very strong song, with the beat
over ruling the lyrics which fit well within the beat throughout. From
listening to this song a few times, it has given me many ideas and inspiration
into what kind of visual I could use when making the video. However with this
song it has the same pace and beat throughout, which may not be too effective
for a music video because usually a good music video has a song which has a
range of paces and a clear chorus because it allows you to match the visuals to
the lyrics more effectively. As well as this the lyrics are not very prominent
in the song, meaning that it would be hard when editing the lip syncing because
it would be hard to match up. Similarly the song has happy connotations which I
believe would be hard to recreate a visual because it would make it into more
of a dancing video, which is what I originally do not want to make- I would
like more of a sad song because you can add more emotion.
