Test
Shots
Me and my group plan on taking test shots of our music artist,
Jessie Lovett. During this stage we can test clothing and styling options in
order to best fit the indie genre and to represent her effectively to engage
our target audience. When establishing the right clothing choices we can move
on to the best positioning of the camera for our particular artist e.g. what
angle suits her best. By doing this it will help make her look as authentic and
professional as possible making her seem real and believable. When testing out
the shots we can see which ones will make the video look as high production as
possible. The test shots will show how the overall product will
look when containing the clothing, make-up, hair, location and lighting. By
doing this at this stage it will give us a chance to improve our original idea
and make sure all features of the visuals fit the styling and genre. This will
help attract and engage our target audience by creating a music video they will
find engaging and aesthetically pleasing to watch. By doing the test shots it
will also show us weather we need to change big features such as location or
smaller features such as items of clothing, this will help save time and effort
to produce an effective music video and save us wasting time changing something
we don't need to change.
- Start filming certain shots
Once we have established the best shots we plan on filming
certain parts depending on the weather on the particular day. By filming
certain shots we are able to decide what techniques would work best in order to
make the video as effective as possible. For example, we could see how wide we
could make the camera shot when filming outside before the music artist lost
the audience's attention. We plan on filming different shots to see which ones
would work better and will be effective when trying to emphasise the meaning of
the music video by impacting certain scenes. We don't plan on filming all shots
we want to use as this will waste time and effort so instead we plan on filming
the shots that are unique and see if they work effectively or if it makes the
video look unrealistic and doesn't match the tone of the song. When testing the
filming we plan on catching different areas of the location in order to get the
best one. This will make the visuals more effective and fit the styling
perfectly. We can also test the positioning of the camera and whether we want
the camera to be filmed hand-held or on a steadicam, this way we will be able
to see which one will fit the meaning better.
- Go to locations at different times to see lighting
We
plan on going to all locations at different times of the day to see which time
would work best for the lighting. This will be helpful when trying to achieve a
bright ambient look for parts of the video and a dark look for other parts.
When going at different parts of the day we can see at what time of the day the
light goes darker and work out the best time for us to arrive at the
location when we decide to film the music video. This means we can
plan effectively and organise our filming to create the best possible indie
music video. Because of our video will contain shots that are filmed inside and
outside we can make sure we pick the time of day that makes the lighting fit
best with the one used in the inside shots. This will make the overall video
look professional and realistic due to the lighting being the same throughout.
If we didn't test the lighting techniques some shots would be brighter or
darker than others which would create too much contrast meaning it wouldn't fit
with the style or song. During the editing stages we plan on editing in the
different coloured lighting in order to follow the forms and conventions of a
typical indie music video. However, within the filming stage we hope to film
on a clear day making editing easier.
- Plan clothing
We
want to start planning the items of clothing and accessories we want our music
artist, Jessie Lovett, to wear. By doing this we will be able to make sure the
styling is as accurate and effective as possible in order to engage and attract
our target audience. As we plan on having multiple outfits for our video we can
plan ahead and create all outfits to make sure they fit together and match the
theme. We want all clothing items to suit the indie style in order to help
involve the target audience, this consists of fur coats, patterned clothing,
velvet dresses etc. As well as the clothing we can also start to think about
make-up and hair styles - this will be much more easier once we've come up with
the outfits due to knowing the colour schemes. However, at the moment we plan
to have colourful eye make-up with natural skin to represent a laid back and
chilled approach towards Jessie Lovett's appearance. By doing this it also fits
with the meaning behind the music video and how she suffers through a bad
breakup with her recent partner. The hair, make-up and clothing emphasises the
storyline making it more relatable for audience members in order for them to
sympathise and connect with the music artist.
